More Education, But Are We More Enlightened?

My first Youtube movie shows changing colors in the windows of Whatcom Educational Credit Union. This building is a new addition to the credit union's collection of facilities near downtown Bellingham.

Education is big business here; about the only major employer in town.

Moving forward. It does look kind of exciting.

Education keeps growing, but are we more enlightened?

One can still hear traffic streaming by. Amazing how noisy traffic is.

Governor Christine Gregoire is proposing to beef up education funding even more in Washington State. Make it a larger priority.

Will that make society more enlightened, or will it just make the school systems larger?

In the future, will we still be dependent on foreign oil?

President Bush is giving his big speech too. It's about a new troop surge in Iraq. More traffic noise?

Would our education be more effective if we were learning to ride bikes and use the transit? How about funding for transit and bike paths?

In the future, will Washingtonians be able to live modestly on this planet or will the meek ones among us be priced out of housing? Will people be priced out of housing by our ever "keeping up with the Joneses economy?"

Will future Washingtonians have to push and shove for the top corporate jobs in order to have basic health coverage?

Is education more important, or how about the Washington Basic Health plan? Education could mean having access to a doctor who can lecture you on exercise and diet.

What is more important, living healthy or qualifying for that top job?

Can our education system help us live our lives in sanity, after we graduate?

Is schooling just seen as another "hoop to jump through" in order to overcome the competition?

Do we want to become more enlightened, or are we just trying to keep up with the Joneses?

Ideally, learning never stops, even if one isn't officially enrolled in school. For example, I just started to learn how Youtube works. Another new thing in life that's available to the public for basically free.

Some of life's greatest pleasures are not monetary. Just hope I can continue to afford my rent as everyone fights to move forward.
