Who still wants to raise a family?
I know, some folks do. Being non family oriented has its merits and may be better adapted to this economy.
"Family wage jobs" is a good phrase to highlight hypocrisy in some mainstream American thinking. Corporate leaders and politicians (especially those on the right) tend to talk about "family values." Economic circumstances, under the watch of these leaders, can be detrimental to raising a family. Growing gap between high and low income, lack of affordable housing, health care and so forth. Also the demands of our modern economy as people are transferred all over the country by corporate employers.
Put down roots in your community, send your kid to school and then get transferred to Dallas.
Good points, but will the economy ever create "family nirvana?"
Living a single life of simplicity might be the way to adapt to modern economic circumstances; for some people at least.
One room, or studio apartment. No car. No children. Less expenses, more flexibility.
For many people, being "non family oriented" is a better adaption to our modern economy. Might as well embrace that, even though embracing it might mean embarrassing the George Bush type of politician.
