Halloween street party in Bellingham?

Thinking I'd at least walk past the door of Rumors Cabaret, I strolled thinking it would probably be too crowded.

Halloween on a Friday. Devilish combination. I'd already danced at Purple Church earlier.

The line started at Railroad and Holly. No, maybe this wasn't the "line."

Mass of people, in the street.

More people than could ever fit in the bottles called downtown bars.

Wow, Castro Street Halloween festival? Was this planned?

Didn't look like it. Otherwise there would have been police barricades. Cars looked like they were trapped thinking they could get down Holly St.

Costumes galore. Quite a scene.

Later I heard that it was a reinactment of Thriller in the street. When I got there, it was just a big crowd available. Some pictures are available (for a while at least) at Gobham.com; a Bellingham Herald site.

I stayed on the sidewalk, but saw, in the distance, it looked like city eventually got the street open. Driving an ambulance through. People will step out of the way for an ambulance, unless they have no sense of responsibility.

Strolling around via Cornwall, away from the scene, I got to Railroad near Depot Market Square. Saw friends there who were talking about how wonderful this spontaneous festival was.

Bellingham?

Some folks were cynical saying stuff like this never happens in sleepy Bellingham.

Giving the city a break I said, "maybe someone could plan something next year, but problem is it could be washed out if autumn rains happen." Hard to plan things in the street in Bellingham.

Depot Market Square could be the spot. The indoor section could provide cover, if rain. Tonight, it sat empty.

I wished I had already bought my new digital camera. So much to see. Eventually, I'll have to get another camera. One can likely search Flicker, YouTube and lots of sites for images. I sure saw lots of cameras. Flickering through the night.

Standing around, one sees everything. Someone dressed as a breathalyser. A plastic tube at his penis. Sign said "blow me."

So many colorful LEDs on people's costumes these days.

My sign had a picture of a tombstone store with a billboard reading "drive carefully, we can wait." I saw that on my 1991 bicycle trip across USA.

Play safe and healthy.

Energetic.

Bicycle trailer with sound system on plaza by Depot Market Square. Everyone dancing to the music. I love dancing, but I also had to dance to keep warm. Better than standing around.

It was quite the night.
