If everyone was into reproducing, the organism would come apart

Can one extrapolate to multi organism societies? Especially under certain circumstances. For instance, too many of an organism, such as humans on this planet.

Have our circumstances changed since our very beginnings as a species? Changed since the days when more procreation was necessary for survival of our fledgling species. Now I feel our biggest threats are related to over population and consumption. Things like global warming come to mind.

Another for instance, not all bees in a hive reproduce. There are various functions for different kinds of bees.

Different strokes for different folks?
