There is some discussion as to whether there is much difference between the same amount of honey and sugar when they get into the body. Expert opinions do seem to vary. I recently listened to a podcast about the toxic effects of sugar and one of the experts on that show seemed to indicate that there wasn't much difference between honey and sugar if the same amount was consumed. It was an interesting interview about how most Americans eat too much sugar. http://www.kqed.org/a/forum/R201202030900 Other experts may disagree and still say honey is better.

Gay rights advocates deserve some pride for their successes.

I thoroughly agree, and would like to add something that's oft overlooked.

The gay community came to terms with itself. Some say it "grew up," others say the AIDS crisis forced it to re-evaluate priorities. I don't care what excuse is used.

I can remember being shunned and castigated for being a parent, that was practically worse than being a PWA. The stereotypes were embraced - I knew several men who would never dare admit they liked to watch football. The list goes on.

Like the movement itself, there were pioneers in the community who demanded to be treated for who they were, not who they were "supposed" to be. I like the changes. Now, the hiking club coexists alongside the drag communtiy. The fear of parenting has evolved into the joy of parenting. These are but a few examples.

I think a lot of these internal changes solidified the foundation on which we stood when lobbying for societal changes. Now here we are, slowly but surely achieving marriage equality. Forward!

There is still much to be done within our community. Transgendered people still face terrible obstacles, both from within and without our community. Elderly gays, disabled gays - we still have a lot of work to do.

So we will. Forward!

The "reboot" sign is mine. Fed up with not just the financial state of the country, I marched in solidarity for as many reasons as there were participants in attendance. I was proud to play a part, to do my part. And for the record, I'm one of those people who take the bus; my carless lifestyle (by choice) isn't always convenient, but my bicycle helps with that immensely. Even coming from Sumas. Taking a stand against the acquisition of fossil fuels...just another reason I was there on Friday.

If we had a "shorter work shift," rather than "layoff" strategy for dealing with slow business cycles, unemployment insurance could supplement part time pay so worker incomes might not have to drop. Worker incomes could remain the same as long as the unemployment benefits held out and it wouldn't necessarily have to cost the government more than the present system where people get laid off totally and collect unemployment.

Nationalized, rather than employment based, health insurance would make this easier as well.

If people stay in the workforce, rather than being laid off totally, their skills can remain intact making it easier for business to ramp up for the next period of prosperity.

One thing to remember is that when people go out into a public space, dressed in such a way as to attract attention, taking part in an event which is designed by it's very
nature to be photographed by members of the public, and by the usually
explictly invited media too, any spurious "right to privacy" has been waived a long time since. The idea behind the WNBR is to attract attention, and to attract media attention, and to attract lots of it.

I was just checking out your travel blog and Flicker account from your trip last month. Wow, you really do see the world differently than I do going at 75mph - I never seem to get the chance to "just check things out." I'm whizzing by and cursing the dumb driver ahead of me!

The streetlights in Springfield were interesting. I recall when McChord AFB had similar lights, but they have now went to glaring halogen.

Good point, Clark. It's true that anti tax sentiment seems most prolific in the US. There's some worldwide, but US seems the worse.

We barely support enough gas taxes to pay for our roads, let alone something like a carbon tax.

Canada may be better, but not immune to this problem as well. A few years back, I remember hearing about something like a carbon tax proposed in British Columbia, but opposition forced them to back off as soon as they ran the numbers and people saw that it would add more to the cost of things like gasoline. Living close to the Canadian border, I hear the debates over various taxes when I hear Canadian radio. Still, that situation is more pronounced here in USA.

It's not a "world" that doesn't trust taxes, it's only the U.S. The rest of the world knows that without the government having money it can't provide services and infrastructure and then we don't have civilization.
