I've always thought 86ed ment being removed from a place, like a bar. It could mean to be voted out which should apply to Republicans in the 2026 Midterms.

As long as I've known the phrase being 86ed, it's been about being kicked out from something, like being 86ed from a bar.

Trump isn't up for reelection so 86ing him is unlikely, unless for instance by Congress. For the Midterms, a better phrase would be 86 Republicans, or 86 with an elephant logo.
