Is AI a better tutor? AI to the rescue when the time of professionals becomes a scarce commodity.

AI seems like it can be good at one on one individual tutoring. Yes, it's good to have redundant ways to fact check. Still, AI has time when lots of professionals advisors are too busy.

I had a conversation with someone who had recently graduated from college. I was amazed how hard she said it was to get an appointment with her faculty advisor. Advisement was sometimes booked out over a month.

I don't remember that being a problem during my college years. Faculty advisors and other faculty were easily available. I had many an informal conversation in faculty offices. If I needed something signed or an official consultation, it was easy to make an appointment within a day or two.

I assumed that would still be the case, but maybe not. How long does it take to get an appointment with a doctor? I can see why people go to AI for advice.

Reducing overly cumbersome degree requirements for state jobs.

Washington State has a new state law dropping overly cumbersome degree requirements for state jobs.

According to an article I saw on Fox TV 13 via Yahoo News: The purpose of the legislation is to "[reduce] barriers to state employment by eliminating postgraduate degree requirements that are unnecessary." Specifically, it seeks to eliminate those requirements when they are "the only way to demonstrate qualifications" for a particular state job.

Ferguson says this will reduce barriers for employment and allow the state to get "the best people for public service."

(My take) I think it's a good idea. I wonder if it also applies to degree requirements for university professors in state run schools? More flexible screening, for skills needed on a job, is a good idea.

Would a tax on millionaires make it harder for sports teams to recruit top paid athletes?

I am glad that Washington State is likely to get tax on millionaires. Some folks fear that it might hurt business and cause some wealthy folks to leave the state.

Ya, it might make it harder for the Seahawks to recruit top salary players which could degrade their chance at the Superbowl. I don't worry that much about sports.

WSU's November 26 2021 Apple Cup victory may have message for corporations about executive pay

WSU Cougars have just won the Apple Cup against the UW Huskies. WSU 40, UW 13.

Normally I don't follow sports, but this game has some unique twists. The Cougars can still win even though they let go of their former Coach Rolovich when he didn't comply with Washington State's vaccine mandate. That might have been a hard parting since they thought they had to pay top dollar. His salary was 3.5 million per year; the highest paid public official in the state. They thought he was crucial, but the team is winning anyway.

One lesson learned is that maybe it's not the coach, but the team that wins the game. I don't know how much their interim coach, Jake Dikert, is paid, but my guess is not as much. He seems to be doing well anyway.

Corporations could learn that lesson as they often feel compelled to retain their top executives for top dollar. One could only hope corporations are taking heed. I know, I am an idealist.

As for the game, they say it's the largest Apple Cup point margin in the history of the Apple Cup. 40 to 13 in favor of WSU. Game was played in Seattle and usually the Cougars have a hard time winning that game when it's in Seattle at UW Stadium, rather than in Pullman at Martin Stadium.

Normally I don't follow sports, but this was a big win tonight and I am sure my home town of Pullman is celebrating.
